We love DIY. β€
In fact, we encourage you to DIY! Then you will find the love in mural as we did!
At the same time, we would also like to share with you some of our experiences.
So you do not have to make the mistakes we did. You’re welcome!
3 tips on producing the most professional looking wall murals everyone can do!

Pandas – Bamboos

#1Β Only use mural graded paint.
You may use home paints (nippon etc.. )but we do recommend mural purpose paint as below.
Our favourite brand: Pelaka – Cheap and easily washable. Can be purchased at any bookstores near you
Never ever use poster colours used in primary school art classes. After time, poster colours may dry, crack and peel off. It will ruin the whole wall and leave a mess even on the floor. (Imagine mopping the colours while smearing all over the floor!)

#2 Use masking tape
They are the best invention when it comes to muraling!
If you need a beautiful tidy and straight line (or even curved line), trace and tape the line of the graphic with masking tape and paint over it.
Simply peel off the tape when done.
Do peel the tape off slowly or it might damage the wall’s paint. (Happened several times!)
As mentioned here, this entire logo below is painted with the assistance of masking tape! (Notice the half rounded curve and leafs on the ferns – Such results are not as good with hands-free)

#3 Mix the paint thoroughly
One of the most pain staking mistakes we made was not ensuring the paint was mixed thoroughly before starting our wall mural.
What happen in the end was the colours was not thick enough when applied to the wall and it gave away a semi transparent layer resulting in our team repainting the whole mural TWICE! We wasted a lot of time doing that.

#4 Start with the background
It may sound like common sense but once excited, you might want to just paint away.
Always start with the backgrounds first and details last!
I cannot emphasize on how much time that has been wasted redoing all the details when done in reverse.

#5 Prepare many disposable spoons and containers
Due to the size of a mural, we are not able to use the standard art tray as painting with poster colours
This is because the amount of paint the mural needs is quite a lot!
Another reason not to use it with plastic trays is that you might need to dispose (Each plastic tray is 50 cents) your tray after long hours of work. It is water soluble but not anymore after long hours of painting (Drying)
If you are painting with a lot of colours, prepare cups or spoons. We paint with a lot of spoons. π Easy to hold and refill.

That’s it! I hope you will get a great result armed with our tips and knowledge! π
Happy muraling!

Sincerely,
